Two Toms River RadioShack Locations Among 1,700 Closing Nationwide

RadioShack locations at the Ocean County Mall and on Route 9 at Route 70 in Toms River have begun offering deep discounts on merchandise as the electronics retailer moves to close the stores in the coming weeks.

The two stores -- along with three others in Ocean County -- are on a list of more than 1,700 the retailer is closing as part of a massive restructuring, Fox Business reported. The company, based in Texas, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection last week.

RadioShack stores in Manchester, Manahawkin and Tuckerton also are on the closure list, which includes 45 stores in New Jersey. The company has 4,000 locations nationwide.

The RadioShack at the Toms River Shopping Center, along with ones in Brick, Lakewood and Lacey, will remain open.

The remaining stores will be sold to General Wireless, according to the Fox report, and more than 1,700 of those will then be taken over by Sprint, which will co-brand them with RadioShack.
