The township will have more than 200 pieces of snow removal equipment on the roads, officials say

As the snow began to fall throughout Ocean County, Toms River officials said they are ready for the 2 to 3 feet Mother Nature is expected to drop on the region.

“We are preparing all township equipment as well as the snow plow contractors and will have over 200 pieces of equipment in use for the storm,” said Lou Amoruso, director of public works for the township.

Ocean County trucks were seen salting and sanding county roads as students and staff were reporting for an abbreviated school day in the Toms River Regional School District, while students at Ambassador Christian Academy, St. Joseph’s Elementary, and Donovan Catholic were given the day off.

As the storm intensifies, the worst of it is expected to be Tuesday. With efforts Tuesday focused on snow removal, Toms River officials said trash and recycling collections scheduled for Tuesday are canceled; collection is expected to resume on Wednesday.

“Please remove trash and recycling cans from the curb area during snow plow operations. Cars are not to be parked on Township streets while snow plowing is underway,” officials said.
