YMCA of the Jersey Shore Earns Fifth Consecutive Top Workplaces Award
Distinction Validates Prioritization of Employee Well-being and Positive Work Environment
YMCA of the Jersey Shore (the Y) was recognized as a Top Workplace by NJ Advance Media for the fifth year in a row. This continued acknowledgement confirms the Y’s deep commitment to creating and maintaining a nurturing work environment focused on employee growth, development and overall well-being.
“We take great strides to make sure our employees feel supported, heard and inspired,” said YMCA of the Jersey Shore President & CEO Laurie Goganzer. “Winning the Top Workplaces Award for the fifth year in a row tells me we’re continuing to meet and exceed our employees’ needs and changing their lives just as our programs and services change the lives of people throughout the Jersey Shore.”

The NJ Advance Media Top Workplaces Award is based entirely on employee feedback collected through a survey conducted by Energage, LLC, an employee engagement technology firm. The confidential survey evaluates the employee experience and measures how well employees feel valued, empowered and engaged.
This year, the Y saw a noticeable increase in survey participation among its employees. Responses were particularly positive in regard to well-being, indicating that employees feel cared for, respected and supported. Employees also conveyed their appreciation for a flexible work-life balance and for the strong values by which the Y operates.

This year, a record 125 organizations earned a Top Workplaces recognition in New Jersey. The Y ranked a notable 31 out of 60 organizations honored in the 500 or more-employee range.
An Inspiring Place to Work
The Y has promoted youth development, healthy living and social responsibility for more than150years, serving more than 65,000 youth, teens, adults and seniors across the Jersey Shore through its health and wellness facilities, counseling and social services, outdoor day camp and childcare center.
“We place just as much importance on strengthening our employees as we do on our communities,” said YMCA of the Jersey Shore Chief Human Resources Officer Maureen Simons. “In addition to professional development and team meetings, we inspire and nurture staff through activities like employee recognition events, staff birthdays and even ice cream socials. It’s clear these small gestures have a big impact in creating a place where people look forward to coming to work.”
Simons also noted a new employee initiative launched in the spring through a partnership between the New Jersey YMCA State Alliance and the New Jersey Council of County Colleges. The program supports Y employees in their pursuit of post-secondary credentials and degrees by making it easier for staff to enter or re-enter community college, leverage grants and other financial aid and apply for work-based learning credits through easier access to student support services.
