📰 News we're reading

1. Did anyone win Powerball? Winning numbers for July 4, 2026 (app.com) — If you’ve got a winning Powerball ticket, you’ll need to claim larger New Jersey prizes through the state lottery office in Trenton, either by mail to the PO Box there or via the secure drop box at the Lawrence Park Complex on Brunswick Avenue. The July 1 jackpot wasn’t hit, but regular drawings and local claim options continue.

2. College Democrats of New Jersey and New Jersey College Republicans Launch Bipartisan 'NJ College Civility Tour' (insidernj.com) — From Trenton’s College Democrats and College Republicans are teaming up on a bipartisan “NJ College Civility Tour” to visit campuses statewide this fall. The series will promote respectful political dialogue, civic engagement, and leadership among students, aiming to show that disagreement doesn’t have to mean division and encouraging young people to participate constructively in public life.

3. Unbearable heat suspected in 19 New Jersey deaths as high temperatures give way to thunderstorms (riverbender.com) — Trenton just endured a record-breaking 101-degree day as a brutal heat dome over the region is now giving way to severe thunderstorms. State officials suspect at least 19 heat-related deaths, many in homes without air conditioning, while storms are knocking out power for hundreds of thousands across several states.

4. Bills would make MVC agencies do all transactions again, take walk-ins (nj.com subscription) — Trenton’s MVC agency has newly added Real ID license and ID transactions, and lawmakers now want every MVC office statewide to again handle all services and accept walk-ins. If passed, the bills would end the split between licensing and vehicle centers, making it easier to complete any motor vehicle task at your closest agency.
