Bloomingdale Man Charged With Terroristic Threats After Police Standoff
SWAT and negotiations units called to scene Saturday.
Fifty-one-year-old Brian Griffin, of , was charged with terroristic threats, hindering apprehension and resisting arrest after several law enforcement agencies from Morris and Passaic counties responded Saturday night to assist with a 90-minute standoff with Griffin.
received a report of a dispute on Rafkind Road around 7:30 p.m. where it was reported that Griffin was possibly in possession of guns. When police arrived on the scene, Griffin was in the basement of the home.
Police said Griffin was uncooperative with Ptl. Dan Fletcher and Ptl. Steven Smith and allegedly refused to show himself as the officers stood at the top of the stairs to the basement and attempted to communicate with him. Several additional units, including the Riverdale Police Department, , Pompton Lakes Police Department, officers from the Passaic County SWAT team, Commander Nart Hapatsha of the Passaic County Hostage Negotiations Unit and , responded to the scene while the standoff ensued.

Griffin was eventually subdued, police said, and taken into custory before being transported to Chilton Hospital for evaluation based on what police called "unusual behavior" in a release. Police said he remained in the hospital Sunday and that there were no injuries at the scene.
Chief Joe Borell, Sgt. Robert Ressland and Ptl. Michael Fatzer from the Bloomingdale Police Department also assisted at the scene.
