Last night on CNN, Anderson Copper hosted a special called, "Bullying: It Stops Here." CNN, Facebook, Cartoon Network and Time Inc. are among many companies that have teamed up to launch this multi-platform effort to end bullying.
In New Jersey, our state recently passed the Harassment, Intimidation and Bullying (HIB) Act. This act states that, "The Board of Education prohibits acts of harassment, intimidation, or bullying of a pupil. A safe and civil environment in school is necessary for pupils to learn and achieve high academic standards. Harassment, intimidation, or bullying, like other disruptive or violent behaviors, is conduct that disrupts both a pupil’s ability to learn and a school’s ability to educate its pupils in a safe and disciplined environment." The HIB Act also states that if a student is caught bullying, serious consequences could be addressed.
Bullying is currently a national epidemic that is becoming more serious day by day. To many people are dying from the harassment of others and this needs to stop.
