Tri-boro Triathlon?
With all the running and cycling charity events that take place in Kinnelon, why hasn't there been a triathlon yet?
I know it's been nearly a month since my last post and no excuses but I've actually been training for this upcoming weekend's Philadelphia triathlon...well relay that is, but close enough! I will be the third leg in a three-person team, which means I'm responsible for running a 10k (6.2 miles). I'm really excited to do this, but for a while now I've seriously thought that we should sponsor a triathlon in our towns. The Tri-boro Tri-has a nice ring to it, right?
Think about it, we have numerous bodies of water for the swim along with miles of winding, hilly, challenging roads for the bike and run portions. My suggestion, since I'm a Kinnelon resident after all, would be the beautiful , just off of Kinnelon Road. With its beautiful lake, gorgeous trails and centralized location, it's the perfect spot to host a local multi-sport event. There are a number of benefits associated with a local triathlon:
- On average, registration fees are in the neighborhood of $100 per athlete.
- Overhead costs are fairly low, including food, water, race markings, etc.
- It would generate positive recognition for our towns.
So if anyone out there agrees that this is a great idea, a physically challenging event for a charitable cause, then let's get something organized. Happy training everyone!
