BUTLER, NJ— A Saturday night garage fire sent a Butler husband and wife to the hospital, Butler Police said.

Police received a call just before 9 p.m. reporting the Belleview Ave fire. One of the residents, 26-year-old Alison Ryan was outside, and told police her husband was still in the garage.

John Ryan, 53, had collapsed from the smoke, which police described as heavy and black. Ptl. Bryan Gordon first attempted to remove Ryan, but the smoke was too thick. He tried again with Sgt. Colleen Pascale a few moments later, just before the garage became fully engulfed.
