Butler Named NAMM Best District for Music Education

BUTLER, NJ — Butler Public Schools has earned the NAMM Foundation's Best Communities for Music Education designation for the third consecutive year, the district announced — and it's not the only music honor the district is celebrating.

The Butler band has also been selected for a prestigious program through William Paterson University, where students will work under a professional director. Only two other bands have received the honor since the program's inception.

Now in its 27th year, the NAMM Foundation's annual award recognizes school districts and individual schools across the country for their exemplary dedication to music education and efforts to ensure equitable access to music as part of a well-rounded education. Recipients are evaluated on criteria including district support, instructional time, participation rates, facilities, and community engagement.

"Our commitment to the arts was further validated this month as Butler named a NAMM Best District for Music Education for the third consecutive year," Superintendent Daniel Johnson said in a recently newsletter.

"Additionally, our band has been selected for a prestigious program through William Paterson University, where they will work under a professional director — an honor bestowed upon only two other bands since the program's inception."
