Butler Schools Cleared After Threat Prompts Bomb Squad Search, Police Say

BUTLER, NJ — Butler schools were declared safe Wednesday after a threat prompted a full sweep of the district's facilities involving the bomb squad and law enforcement from multiple agencies.

The Butler School District, working alongside the Butler Police Department and Passaic County law enforcement, conducted a thorough search of the building, including a comprehensive inspection of all areas. The Morris County Sheriff's Department also assisted in the investigation.

Resource police officers remained on site following the all-clear, and the Butler Police Department maintained an enhanced presence throughout the day. All classes resumed without incident.

In a message to the community, Superintendent Dr. Daniel Johnson said the district would always respond with the highest level of precaution in situations like this.

"The safety and well-being of every student, staff member, and community member in our care is our absolute top priority," Johnson said. "Together, we remain a strong community and that strength is what makes Butler special."

Johnson acknowledged that such threats have become an increasingly common challenge for school districts across New Jersey.
