Driver of Crashed Bronco Arrested on Drug Charges

Police said vehicle was 'unsafe.'

The driver of a into the on Main Street Saturday was arrested and charged with driving an unsafe vehicle, possession of a controlled dangerous substance less than 50 grams and possession of drug paraphernalia.

John Smith, 37, of Wanaque, was arrested Saturday after an investigation into the crash. He was later released in his own recognizance and issued a ticket to appear in court on Feb. 8.

responded to the accident at 10:11 a.m. where Smith said he lost control of his vehicle after the front tire suddenly blew out. Smith crashed into three parked cars before crashing into the building. Police said patrons had just entered the Rec Center before the accident but that they were not injured and neither was Smith. The vehicles that were struck were unoccupied at the time.

Bloomingdale Construction Official Dan Hagberg also responded to the scene, as police said the damage to the entrance of the building was extensive. The Bloomingdale Rec Department cancelled all classes for Monday and said the repairs should be done by Tuesday.
