Kinnelon, Butler Junior Police Academy Application Deadline Extended To June 10

The five-day summer program for ages 11-14 runs July 6-10 at Kiel School and still has openings.

BUTLER, NJ — The deadline to apply for the 21st Junior Police Academy, co-sponsored by the Kinnelon and Butler police departments, has been extended to June 10, with multiple spots still available.

The free five-day program runs July 6-10 from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at Kiel School, 115 Kiel Ave. It is open to students between the ages of 11 and 14. Class size is limited to 50 participants.

The academy gives young people a firsthand look at what police recruits experience, with activities including physical training, marching, saluting, motor vehicle stops, first aid and an introduction to detective bureau responsibilities.

Presentations are planned from several state and county agencies, including the Morris County Sheriff's K-9 Unit, the Kinnelon and Butler fire departments, the Triboro First Aid Squad, Homeland Security and U.S. Customs at Newark Airport, and the Morris County Jail.
