No New ZIP Code For Kinnelon

Sorry, Butler and Kinnelon-- looks like you'll continue to share 07405.

KINNELON, NJ — Kinnelon's request for their own unique ZIP code was denied by the United States Postal Service, Kinnelon Mayor Robert Collins told the Daily Record. The two towns will continue to share the 07405 ZIP code.

The new ZIP code was denied because there are not enough customers and delivery routes to warrant two ZIP codes, the paper reported.

The shared ZIP code has lead to problems with deliveries, GPS directions and even emergency services being able to reach the right houses. A number of streets have the same name and ZIP code, despite being in different towns.

Kinnelon has a population of 10,400 and Butler's is just over 7,600. Butler is home to the local post office, and Kinnelon does not have one, which is why they share the same ZIP code. A new post office was not part of the request for a new ZIP code.
