A 54-year-old Kinnelon woman was arrested on DWI charges after police said she was involved in a motor vehicle accident and had left the scene.
Holly A. Schmitt was charged with DWI, hindering apprehension, reckless driving, leaving the scene of an accident, having no liability insurance, failure to keep right at an intersection and failure to report an accident.
According to police, Ptl. Nicholas Cifelli responded to the accident at the intersection of Kiel Avenue and Ricker Road at 3:25 p.m. Wednesday where Ptl. The victim had gotten the other car’s license plate number, which police discovered belonged to a Kiel Avenue resident.
Ptl. Cifelli went to the residence and was met by Schmitt, who allegedly acknowledged that she was involved in the accident, but said she did not want police involvement. Police said Schmitt allegedly showed signs of intoxication and was given several field sobriety tests before being arrested.
She was arrested and transported to the Kinnelon police station where she was later released from and issued tickets to appear in court at a later date. Police said the driver of the other vehicle, a 24-year-old Green Pond resident, was not injured.
