Police: Man Found Drunk Outside Nursery School

Kinnelon resident charged with driving while intoxicated.

A 40-year-old borough man was allegedly found drunk inside his pickup truck parked outside a nursery school last week, said Tuesday.

According to Lt. John Schwartz, William P. Donohue was charged with driving while intoxicated after failing several field sobriety tests when he was found inside his 2006 Honda pickup truck in the parking lot of on Nov. 14 at about 3:20 p.m.

Sgt. Christopher Burns responded to a report of a possibly intoxicated male in the parking lot outside the school, Schwartz said. Burns detected a "strong odor" of alcohol on Donohue, who had "difficulty answering simple questions," Schwartz said.

According to Schwartz, Donohue told Burns he had driven to the school, but did not consume any alcohol after arriving in the parking lot.

Donohue was processed at police heaquarters and released pending a court appearance.

A 57-year-old Kinnelon man was also arrested for driving while intoxicated as well as careless driving after crashing his vehicle into a guard rail on Kiel Avenue Friday night, Schwartz said.

After responding to the one-car motor vehicle accident at about 6:30 p.m., Patrolman Melissa Huizenga detected a "strong odor" of alcohol on the breath of William J. Pauly Jr., Schwartz said.

According to Schwartz, Pauly failed several field sobriety tests and was transported to police headquarters where he was processed and released pending a court appearance.

Motor vehicle stop leads to drug arrest

A 17-year-old Kinnelon resident was charged with possession of marijuana following a motor vehicle stop on Kinnelon Road on Nov. 14, Schwartz said.

Patrolman Mark Ehrenburg conducted the stop after witnessing the driving talking on her cell phone shortly before 3 p.m., Schwartz said.

According to Schwartz, Ehrenburg spoke to the driver and the three passengers and observed "signs of marijuana use on several of them."

"They also gave conflicting answers concerning their destination," Schwartz said.

A search of the vehicle revealed a small bag of marijuana that allegedly belonged to the driver, Schwartz said.

After being arrested, the 17-year-old driver was processed and released to her parents, Schwartz said.
