Summer Butler Marketplace Canceled Due to Low Vendor Participation

Business Association said the market could be considered for later in the summer if vendors come forward.

After only a couple of interested vendors have come forward for the new , slated to kickoff with a ribbon-cutting at River Place Monday, the Butler Business Association has decided to cancel the weekly summer event due to low participation.

Business Association Secretary Sandi Liss said they were hoping to have more interested participants by now, but until they do, they will not be holding the marketplace, possibly until the winter.

The marketplace previously was held every Monday afternoon from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. at 190 Main Street.

"No other towns have a Monday market so it was a good time to do it," she said.

The business association was then excited to announce that the marketplace would be moving outdoors for the summer at River Place.

Aside from low participation from vendors, Liss said some of the vendors had a hard time finding people to work the market.

"A lot of the vendors have problems getting staffing," she said. "I'm hoping that maybe we can get it together or maybe put together a winter's market."

To participate in the market requires a health permit and costs $20 per week, which goes to the business association. Liss said vendors can sell anything they'd like as long as it is somewhat natural and homemade.

Liss also said the business association would consider starting the market later in the summer if they have enough vendors come forward now. "We need a definite commitment," she said.
