Two Luring Attempts Reported In Kinnelon: Police

Two girls reported different occasions of a man in a white truck asking them if they needed a ride.

KINNELON, NJ — Two girls reported a man attempting to lure them into his van on separate occasions, Kinnelon police said. It was unclear if the man was the same in both incidents.

On May 9th, a young girl girl reported being approached by a man in a white truck in the Smoke Rise section of Kinnelon while walking home from the bus. The truck dove past her, stopped, and backed up, police said.

The driver reportedly said to the girl, "Do you live close? Do you want a ride home?" The girl kept walking, so the truck reversed again towards her. He asked again, "Are you sure you don't want a ride?"

The girl ran home, and her mother called police. The truck was described as a "white truck with a black dump body with a 'flower' design on the door and there were landscape tools in the rear bed of the truck." The girl said she didn't see the man, but that he did not have a foreign accent.

After hearing her friend's story, a second girl reported a similar incident to police that occurred in late April.

In that incident, the young girl was walking home from the same bus stop. A white truck approached the girl, asked if she lived close and wanted a ride home. The truck in that incident was described as a "white 4 door truck with a black dump body, but the rear door was smaller than the front door and a gray interior."

The second girl said the man was "clean shaven wearing a baseball style hat."
