ESSEX COUNTY, NJ — Need to safely dispose of some old computer junk, or unwanted electronic gear in Essex County? Mark down Saturday, May 16 on your calendar.
Essex County will hold its next Computer and Electronics Recycling Day from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Public Works building at 99 West Bradford Avenue in Cedar Grove.
Items being accepted include computers, monitors, printers, fax machines, scanners, telecom equipment, speakers, televisions, keyboards, main frames, VCRs, stereos, DVD players, toasters, irons and cellular telephones.
Items that will not be accepted include smoke detectors and carbon monoxide alarms.
Here’s what to know if you plan to go, according to a county news release:
“The Essex County Computer and Electronics Recycling Day is for Essex County residents only. Residents are not charged when they bring materials, but they must provide proof of residency at the site. Commercial businesses may not drop off materials. For more information, please call the Essex County Utilities Authority at 973-792-9060 or visit www.ecuanj.com.”
Items for disposal should be placed in the trunk. Residents should not exit their vehicles, organizers said.
“Recycling computer hardware and electronic devices helps remove lead and other dangerous chemicals from our waste stream, which is important for us and our children,” Essex County Executive Joseph DiVincenzo Jr. said.
The event is sponsored by Essex County and the Essex County Utilities Authority.
