VERONA, NJ — The Verona Township Council recently recognized the Verona Lions Club for 75 years of dedicated service to the community, presenting the organization with a proclamation earlier this month.

Mayor Christopher Tamburro and council members honored the club's decades-long commitment to philanthropy and volunteerism, highlighting its impact on residents through initiatives such as the Hospital Loan Closet, which provides free access to essential medical equipment including wheelchairs, walkers and crutches.

The proclamation also recognized the Lions Club's support of vision-related programs, including eyeglass collection efforts and initiatives aimed at preventing blindness and assisting individuals with visual impairments.

The club also supports Camp Marcella, a summer camp serving children with physical, cognitive and developmental disabilities.

Beyond Verona, the organization has expanded its humanitarian work by helping send more than $35,000 in medical equipment to hospitals in Ukraine and supporting relief efforts through the United Ukrainian American Relief Committee.

Locally, the Verona Lions Club continues to maintain township bus stop shelters and support community programs. Most recently, the club donated $20,000 toward the purchase of a new electric vehicle for Verona's Medical Transportation Program, which provides affordable transportation to medical appointments for Verona and Cedar Grove residents.
