VERONA, NJ — Verona residents can make a difference in the fight against hunger as a weeklong community food drive gets underway, offering several ways to support local families in need.
The Junior Women's Club of Verona announced that its annual Verona Fights Hunger Week campaign will run Saturday, Oct. 10, through Oct. 17, benefiting food pantries in Verona and Montclair, according to a Facebook announcement.
Since 2013, Verona Fights Hunger has collected nearly 30,000 bags of nonperishable food and more than $50,000 in donations for local food pantries.
Residents can drop off donations during regular business hours at the Verona Community Center, Verona Town Hall, Verona Public Library and Our Lady of The Lake Church.
Requested items include breakfast cereal, canned goods, peanut butter, jelly, rice, pasta, boxed milk, cleaning products and paper goods.
The campaign will conclude Saturday, Oct. 17, with a celebration at Town Hall, where collected donations will be loaded onto a moving truck for delivery to the Human Needs Food Pantry in Montclair.
Residents can also donate online or shop the campaign's Amazon wishlist.
