Registration is underway for the 8th annual Essex County College Police Academy Week in July at the Cedar Grove facility. The academy will be held July 9-13.
The program is open to teens ages 13 to 16 as of July 1, 2012. Registration and other information is available by calling 973-877-4350 or contacting Captain Lori Apicelli at apicellil@essex.edu.
Cost of the program is $100 per child. The Junior Academy will run from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day.

Participants will learn about the education and other requirements needed for a career in law enforcement. Topics to be covered include the juvenile justice system; fingerprinting and identification; K-9 demonstrations; gang awareness, drug awareness; Internet safety; and fire safety; first aid, and crime scene investigations.
A field trip will also be included as will a physical training component.
