Arminio Studios... An introduction to Music Matters

Each week we will be talking about the music and entertainment business. I will be accepting emailed questions regarding the topics at hand... because Music Matters!

Hi Everyone, and welcome to Music Matters.

The music business has changed drastically over the years. It takes so much more to accomplish goals than it used to.

Due to a chain reaction of events over the years we find ourselves not knowing which way to turn to do the things we want to do.

Some of us are pursuing original music, some are club or working musicians, some are part time, some are full time. Some do it for fun, some play at worship services, Some tour, some don't. As the drinking and driving laws tightened, smoking was eliminated from the bars and clubs.

The gap between working musicians who actually made a living performing and the Stars you see on TV and hear on the radio increased. The lower end of that gap started closing even more where pro musicians and entertainers had to pick up one or two jobs to make ends meet.

Even the new recording artists who actually got the elusive record deal...didn't make any money on the first release. They made money off of selling items and the actual tour dates.

The recession didn't help either to add to all of this.

The great news is it is a different era and the way we handle ourselves and the actions we take will be what creates the next wave up in The Music industry.

Social media, Putting together a product that is the next thing the world is looking for....acquiring a fan base on Youtube and other outlets like it, getting play from radio shows and becoming a guest on TV and radio shows will gain you popularity. Getting someone who believes in you to get behind you.

One of the mistakes that people make is they will sit in a room and write music and never come out. They will write so much music..they will try recording it on an iPhone , ipad or computer utilizing software that they acquired from someone or it came with a game.

The problem is that is just doesn't sound good, or look good. It takes pros who have experience with the ear, the dimensions of sound, the equipment that is used. They fall short because they want to do it themselves. You need that team.

It is smarter to record one great song and a video and get 500,000 hits on Youtube then it is to put out stuff that isn't cutting it. You can hear the difference and understand what I mean by looking at or listening to something on Youtube, or listening to Reverb nation. Pick a page and go down the list, you will notice things that bother you about certain songs production. I doesn't matter if you like the song or not if just feels better or worse.

With that said this site will address many issues over the coming months and I would love the readers to write in and I will open up the information and my opinions to the topics. I look forward to writing about the topics and If I can help one person in some way then I am getting my objective done.

Remember just because I am affiliated with a studio and other areas of the entertainment business it doesn't mean you have to use my services. The key here is that you need to be informed, you have to know you objective and you have to be very comfortable with the people you allow to help you with your career.

I created Music Matters because of real experiences that need to be discussed, It is directed to the new musicians who want to make a career of music, The parents out there who have to understand and learn how to deal and understand that child who goes to his/her first lesson, school musical and the eventual band. Right up to that gigging full time musician. As I get questions I will try to add beginner and pro questions along with my experiences in the business for the last 32 years.

Thanks so much and look forward to sharing ideas and maybe some stories with you.

Thanks Joey
