Cedar Grove Boy Scouts Troop 65 Rack up Klondike Victory

Cedar Grove Troop 65 victorious at recent Scout Event.

Cedar Grove Troop 65 emerged victorious in the Lenape Trail District Klondike Derby held in South Mountain Reservation on February 16, 2013.

As if set in the wilds of northern Canada, the Klondike Derby is an annual scouting event based on the historical Klondike Gold Rush in which troops representing Essex County municipalities compete by traveling from “town” to “town” while towing an equipment –laden sled that was constructed by the Scouts.

At each town, the scouts are presented with a timed challenge to test their varied Scouting Skills. Emphasis is placed on organization, teamwork and speed.

The patrols from the various scout troops competed in two divisions based on age.  The younger Scouts from Troop 65 placed first in the “Panner” Division.  The older scouts ran a team challenge at “Ross River”, a fabled fur-trading and mining town.
