On the Right Track
The surgery is a week away and I have made significant strides since the injury. The preparation is grueling but it will pay off.
This past weekend I went home to meet the doctor who will perform the surgery and the physical therapist who will be mostly in charge of my rehabilitation. To say the least, I am in great hands. Dr. Shindle, out of Summit Medical Group, is a veteran at ACL surgeries and PT. Dan Kane will push me to the limit to get back out on the court again as soon as possible.
It is frustrating to see how much muscle I have already lost in my right leg. My legs look like they belong to two different people! I guess it is karma for always poking fun at my little sister's chicken legs.
However, since I have last blogged, I have made noticeable strides. For one, I am up and walking around without crutches. I have started my "pre-hab" to make sure my knee is not stiff entering surgery. I can bend my knee almost to the point I could prior injury with minimal pain, but the stiffness and soreness after the stretching reminds myself that, "Yes, I still have a torn ACL."

I have also started to bike at my school gym these past two days with minimal resistance. Sure, my knee is sore after I bike, but it's a good sore, like I accomplished something.
The surgery is a week from today. This week I have to just keep stretching and strengthening the leg, biking, and icing so I enter surgery in the best shape possible.

It is a cliche thing to say but everything happens for a reason. The number of people that have helped me through this process is unbelievable. From the cafeteria lady bringing my food to the table for me, or the health service nurses setting up appointments for me, and the multiple people offering to hold the door for me, this injury has really showed me the good in people and why I am so happy I chose this college.
I'm taking this lemon and I'm going to make the best lemonade you've ever drank. Motivated.
