Cedar Grove Apartment Building Evacuated After Car Fire: PD

Emergency responders evacuated Cedar Grove Garden Apartments after a car fire took place in the building's garage, authorities said.

CEDAR GROVE, NJ — Emergency responders evacuated Cedar Grove Garden Apartments on Monday after a car fire took place in the building’s garage, authorities said.

According to the Cedar Grove Police Department, officers arrived at the scene of the fire at 2:45 p.m. The officers used extinguishers to slow the flames down while they evacuated the building.

The Cedar Grove Fire Department arrived on the scene shortly afterwards and fully extinguished the blaze, authorities said.

The Cedar Grove Ambulance and Rescue Squad transported a police officer to a nearby hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation, authorities said.

“The cause of the fire is under investigation, however it does appear to be accidental in nature,” Chief Joseph Cirasa said.

Cirasa added that due to the quick response, the fire was contained to the car and garage area of the building with “no major injuries.”
