Cedar Grove Cop Helps Revive Child Found At Bottom Of Pool

A Cedar Grove cop arrived on the scene of a near-drowning on Suzanne Court just in time to help with a lifesaving CPR effort, police say.

CEDAR GROVE, NJ — A Cedar Grove police officer arrived on the scene of a near-drowning on Suzanne Court just in time to help with a lifesaving CPR effort last weekend, authorities say.

According to the Cedar Grove Police Department, emergency responders received a call about a child found at the bottom of a pool around 5:33 p.m. on Saturday.

When officer John Smigelsky arrived at the Suzanne Court residence, the child was “blue and not breathing,” authorities said.

At that time, Smigelsky took over CPR efforts from family members, successfully managing to clear the child’s airway. The child then began to breathe again, police said.

Cedar Grove Ambulance members and paramedics transported the child to Saint Joseph’s Hospital for further treatment, police stated.
