Cedar Grove police will participate in "Drive Sober Or Get Pulled Over," which will kick off on Aug. 18 and run until Sept. 4.

CEDAR GROVE, NJ — Police agencies from around New Jersey, including Cedar Grove, are gearing up for the state’s largest annual drunk driving crackdown, “Drive Sober Or Get Pulled Over,” which will kick off on Friday, Aug. 18 and run until Monday, Sept. 4.
During the campaign, local and state law enforcement officers in New Jersey will conduct sobriety checkpoints and roving patrols targeting motorists who may be driving while impaired by alcohol or drugs.
“We will have dedicated patrols at certain times throughout the duration of the campaign,” Cedar Grove PD Lieutenant John Kennedy told Patch. He declined to elaborate on the locations and dates of the patrols.

“Nearly 30% of all motor vehicle fatalities in New Jersey are alcohol related,” said Gary Poedubicky, Acting Director of the NJ Division of Highway Traffic Safety. “This is a zero-tolerance campaign. If drivers are caught operating their vehicle while impaired they will be arrested.”
During last year’s crackdown, participating agencies made 1,649 DWI arrests across the Garden State, authorities said.
