In Cedar Grove: Criminal Mischief / DWI / Gas Station Theft

Police Blotter: Sept. 21 to 27

Editor’s Note: The following incidents are reprinted directly from the Cedar Grove police blotter, a listing of selected incidents that may not include the full scope of activity in the area. All of the following incidents are accusations, and all suspects should be presumed innocent until proven guilty.

On Wednesday, September 23, at 6:38 p.m., police responded to the Exxon Station on Pompton Avenue on a report of a theft. Upon arrival, the attendant reported some unknown person had stolen his cell phone from the station’s office area. The victim informed police the passenger of a vehicle getting gas had entered the office area while he was pumping gas and he suspects that person stole the phone. Officers checked the area for the described vehicle and suspect with negative results. The value of the phone was estimated at $150.

On Thursday, September 24, at 5:38 p.m., police arrested an Irvington man wanted on an outstanding traffic warrant issued by the Cedar Grove Court. The 35 year-old defendant, Livenschi Laterrion, was processed at police headquarters and released after posting the required bail.

On Thursday, September 24, at 10:40 a.m., police charged a Hackettstown man with operating an unregistered and uninsured motor vehicle, while his NJ driving privileges were expired. The 67 year-old defendant, Martin Zartin, was cited for the violations and released pending a Municipal Court appearance. The defendant’s vehicle, a 2004 Toyota, was impounded.

On Sunday, September 27, police responded to Stevens Avenue on a report of criminal mischief to a motor vehicle. The vehicle owner reported some unknown person(s) shattered the rear window of his 2015 Subaru, sometime during the overnight hours. The victim reported he heard a loud noise outside the house at around 2:30 a.m., followed by the sound of a vehicle accelerating and suspects that was when the incident occurred. Police recovered a metal object that was used to shatter the window and the matter was referred to the detectives for follow-up investigation. The cost to repair the window was estimated at $1,000.

On Sunday, September 27, at 10:14 p.m., police responded to the intersection of Ridge Road and Cedar Street on a citizen’s report of a motor vehicle stopped in the middle of the road with an unconscious operator behind the wheel. Upon arrival, Ptl. Jason Rivers located the vehicle and operator and following an investigation, arrested the subject on a charge of driving while intoxicated. The 19 year-old defendant, Daniel Gonzalez of Caldwell, was processed on the charge and released pending a Municipal Court appearance.
