Cedar Grove Library Unveils First Phase of ‘Pave the Way’ Initiative

More than 200 personalized bricks were unveiled at the Cedar Grove Public Library during an Open House on Saturday, September 19, marking the completion of the first phase of the Friends of the Cedar Grove Public Library’s “Pave the Way” fundraising initiative. Proceeds from the fundraiser will support renovations to the Children’s Library.

The bricks, inscribed with messages and tributes from community members and local businesses, were installed at no cost by Smitty’s Landscaping and Irrigation, Cedar Grove. Additional “Pave the Way” sponsors include The Learning Experience, Metric Plumbing & Heating, O’Toole Scrivo, and Hal Wheeler’s School for Dogs.

“A strong library benefits every part of our township,” said Denise Bailey, President, Friends of the Cedar Grove Public Library. “Our library is more than a building – it is a shared resource that strengthens education, supports lifelong learning, and brings neighbors together.”

The Open House also provided an opportunity for residents to meet new members of the Library team, including Richelle DeFrank, Library Director; Gianna Coppola, Children’s Librarian; and Alexis Prussack-Martin, Adult Services Coordinator.

“The ‘Pave the Way’ initiative is a wonderful example of what can happen when a community comes together behind its library,” DeFrank said. “We are incredibly thankful to the Friends, our local businesses, and everyone who purchased a brick and helped make this first phase possible. Their support is helping us take an important step toward creating a Children’s Library that will inspire curiosity, encourage learning, and give Cedar Grove’s children a space they can truly call their own.”

The event reflected the community support behind the “Pave the Way” initiative. Cedar Bean’s Coffee Joint donated beverages for attendees, while first-graders from South End Elementary School sold handmade bracelets to raise funds for the Friends.

In November 2025, the Township celebrated a Grand Reopening of the Library, highlighting new flooring, updated furniture, and relocated stacks in the main Library area. The “Pave the Way” initiative builds on that momentum by focusing on the Children’s Library, with the goal of creating a refreshed, functional, and engaging educational space.

Brick Orders Now Being Accepted for Phase II of ‘Pave the Way’

The “Pave the Way” initiative is accepting new orders, for expected installation in 2027. Bricks can be ordered at https://donate.brickmarkers.com/cgp or via an order form at the Library desk. Bricks can be purchased by families, as a gift, in memoriam, and more. Business sponsorships are also available.

About the Friends

The Friends of the Cedar Grove Public Library works to increase awareness and use of the Library as a community resource and encourages donations for the benefit and enhancement of the Library. The organization received 501©3 status in 2023.

Upcoming Friends meetings will be held on October 20, November 10, and December 8. New members are welcome and needed. Membership dues are tax-deductible and all proceeds go toward enhancing the Cedar Grove Public Library.
