Cedar Grove Man Arrested, Allegedly Stole Jewelry From Neighbor: Cops

An allegedly stolen ring has been recovered, but a diamond stud is still missing, Cedar Grove police say.

Cedar Grove police have arrested a local man who allegedly burglarized jewelry from his neighbor’s home on Tuesday.

According to police, an Anderson Parkway resident reported a burglary at his home around 10:26 a.m.

The resident told police that another neighbor informed him that he saw a man enter the victim’s home through a ground floor window around 8:30 a.m., then exit through the same window about 15 minutes later.

The resident told police that he immediately observed that a ring and a diamond earring were missing from his wife’s jewelry collection.

After conducting an investigation, Cedar Grove police arrested Christopher L. Amato, 41, of Cedar Grove, and charged him with burglary and theft.

He was transported to the Essex County Correctional Facility in Newark in lieu of a $15,000 Bond with a 10 percent cash bail option.

According to police, the allegedly stolen ring has been recovered but the diamond stud has not been accounted for as of Wednesday.
