Police activity Feb. 1-5.

At 9:51 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb 1, Ptl. Joseph Russomanno initiated a motor vehicle stop after observing a vehicle being sought by the Wayne Police Department in regard to a shoplifting incident at the Willowbrook Mall. A subsequent investigation resulted in a charge of driving while suspended being made against the 23 year-old driver, Tiffany O. Clark of Brooklyn, N.Y., for operating the vehicle while her N.Y. driving privileges were under suspension. She was cited for the violation and turned over to the Wayne Police in regard to the shoplifting incident in their jurisdiction.

At 4:53 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 4, police arrested a Ringwood man after he was found to be wanted on an outstanding traffic warrant issued by the Cedar Grove Court.  The 30 year-old defendant, Donald R. Byrnes, was processed at police headquarters and released after posting the required bail.  Ptl. Joseph Filippello was the arresting officer.

At 9:12 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 4, police responded to the area of Fairview Avenue and Brunswick Road on a report that a deer had been struck by a motor vehicle. Upon arrival, officers discovered that the involved vehicle had left the scene, leaving the badly injured deer in the roadway. Due to the severe injuries suffered by the animal, it was necessary for police to destroy the deer.

*Due to the large deer population in the area, motorists are advised to use caution when operating near wooded areas, especially between dusk and dawn.

At 10:12 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 5, police responded to the Bradford Arms Apartments on East Bradford Avenue on a report that a garage roof had collapsed.  A subsequent investigation revealed that the roofs of three connected garages had collapsed under the weight of ice and snow. Two unoccupied vehicles parked in the affected garages, a 2001 Honda Accord and a 2004 Honda CRV, were heavily damaged as a result of the collapse. The Township Construction Official also responded to scene and determined that the structure was an imminent hazard and needed to be demolished. The affected area was cordoned off until Bradford Arms officials could make arrangements to remove debris and repair the structure. No injuries were reported.
