
The following reports were prepared by the Cedar Grove Police Department and do not necessarily indicate convictions.
On Tuesday, Jan. 31, a Center Avenue resident reported a burglary. The victim reported that some unknown person had forced open the front door of his residence on Saturday, Jan. 28 between the hours of 8:15-11 p.m. The victim reported that nothing appeared to be missing from the home. The detective bureau also responded to the home, processed the scene for physical evidence, and is now conducting a follow-up investigation.

On Wednesday, Feb. 1 at 8:10 a.m., police responded to the Beverly Road area on a report of a suspicious van driving slowly through the neighborhood. Responding officers located the involved vehicle on Harper Terrace and the occupants reported they were riding the area looking for salvageable items put out for bulk pick-up. The vehicle in question was determined to be uninsured and was impounded. The operator/owner was issued a summons at the scene and released pending a Municipal Court appearance.

On Thursday, Feb. 2 at 4:04 a.m., Ptl. Dominick Buscio observed a vehicle with an open rear hatch parked in a Ridge Court driveway. Upon making contact with the homeowner it was determined that some unknown person(s) had entered the unlocked vehicle and rummaged through the contents. At the time of the incident, the only thing known to be stolen was a case of water. On the same date at 4:08 p.m., a Glen Rock Road resident reported that someone unknown person(s) had rummaged through the contents of her unlocked vehicle sometime during the overnight hours. Nothing appeared to be missing from the vehicle. Residents are advised to lock and alarm their vehicles when unattended and to properly secure all valuable and keys.

On Thursday, Feb. 2 at 1:56 p.m., Ptl. Jose Rodriguez initiated a motor vehicle stop for an observed violation. A subsequent check of the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission (NJMVC) computer revealed that the operator’s driving privileges were under suspension. The 24 year-old operator, Jermey A. Josaphat of Irvington, was arrested on the charge, processed at police headquarters and released pending a Municipal Court appearance.

On Thursday, Feb. 2 at 8:42 p.m., Ptl. Robert McDermott initiated a motor vehicle stop for an observed violation. A subsequent investigation revealed that the vehicle operator was wanted on an outstanding motor vehicle warrant issued by the Cedar Grove Court. The 47 year-old operator, Margaret K. Kelly, was arrested on the warrant, processed at police headquarters and released pending appearance in the Municipal Court.

On Thursday, Feb. 2, a Township man reported that he had been struck by a motor vehicle at 3:02 p.m. the previous afternoon (Wednesday, Feb. 1) while crossing the street at the intersection of Ridge Road & Cedar Street. The victim stated that he did not initially think that he was injured but is now experiencing leg pain. The victim described the involved vehicle as a green Chevy Blazer being operated by a white male who appeared to be in forties. Any person witnessing the incident or having additional information is asked to contact police at 973-239-4100.

On Friday, Feb. 3, police investigated a report of a theft that occurred at the High School on Thursday, Feb. 2 The victim, a student at the school, reported that some unknown person had stolen his iPhone 3GS from his gym locker between the hours of 3-5 p.m. The phone was black in color and its value was reported as being over $200.

On Saturday, Feb. 4 at 5:13 p.m., police responded to the area of Rt. 23 and Commerce Road on a report of a motor vehicle crash involving a deer. A subsequent investigation revealed that the involved vehicle, a 2011 Toyota, had been traveling north on Rt. 23 when a deer ran into the roadway resulting in a collision. The vehicle sustained reportable property damage and the deer was killed in the crash. Due to the large deer population in the area, motorists are urged to use caution when operating near wooded areas, especially between dusk and dawn.
