Each year the Cedar Grove Swim Team sponsors a Swim-A-Thon to benefit a local family or organization in need. The swimmers ask for pledges per lap or a flat contribution to support their swimming for the cause. The 2014 Swim-A-Thon is scheduled for Monday, July 7th: from 8-9pm (10 & under) and 9-10pm (11 & over). This year, the Team will swim for The DePaola Family.
Jay and Lynn DePaola are longtime Cedar Grove residents who raised their three daughters, Allison, Angela, and Christina, in town. Jay and Lynn were always extremely active, and both enthusiastically enjoyed bicycling. All three daughters swam for the Cedar Grove Swim Team. Christina was a team member for 8 years, and later went on to coach with Joe Lipman and Tom Freda for 3 years.

In 2012, the family was met with Jay’s devastating diagnosis of ALS, more commonly known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease. The family is facing this difficult challenge with utmost grace and courage, as Jay fights a brutal battle against this degenerative disease. All funds collected through the 2014 Cedar Grove Swim-A-Thon will be donated directly to the DePaola family.
