Council Election Deadline Comes to a Close

Time is running out for potential candidates wishing to submit applications and petitions to run for seats on either the Verona or Cedar Grove township councils, officials in both townships said.

Any registered voter, who has lived in the township for more than one year, is eligible to run for a council seat in the May 14, 2013 election.

However, the deadline for the candidate application to be turned in to the township clerk's office is 4 p.m. on Monday, March 11.

There are three seats open on both the Verona and Cedar Grove Township Councils.

In Cedar Grove, three seats are open in Cedar Grove with Councilmen Joseph Chiusolo, John Zunic and E. Romeo Longo up for re-election. Both Chiusolo and Zunic handed in their applications for the ballot, said Martina Meding of the Cedar Grove Township Clerk's Office.

On Monday, March 4, newcomer Stacy Kilkenny, a High Point resident, who has been very vocal at council meetings, also submitted her application and petition for the Cedar Grove election.

Longo has said he is "seriously considering" running again.

In Verona, three council seats are also open with councilmen Kevin Ryan, Jay Sniatkowski and Bob Manley up for re-election. Newcomer Al De Old of Verona, who can be seen at just about every council and board of education meeting,also filed for his candidacy, according to the Verona Municipal Clerk's Office.
