Citizen Emergency Preparedness Training Session Tonight in Verona

Free training session offered by Essex County College Police Academy.

The Essex County College (ECC) Police Academy will conduct a two-hour training session at no cost to participants on citizen emergency preparedness from 7 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 18 at the , 880 Bloomfield Ave. The Verona stop is one of a number of training sessions planned throughout Essex County by the ECC Police Academy as part of the federal Community College Citizen Preparedness Program (3CP2).

The training will enable residents to make threat-awareness assessments; be prepared to function for 72 hours during a disaster without first responder assistance, and gain valuable knowledge on disaster recovery measures.

Essex is one of only 125 community colleges in the nation to be designated a 3CP2 site. The program is funded through and approved by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the National Partnership for Environmental Technology Education (PETE). ECC is providing the local citizen training through its Police Academy in Cedar Grove.

The training is coordinated by Rocco Miscia, director of the Essex County College Police Academy. He said the local goal is to train 4,000 residents over the next year, with a national goal of half a million people receiving this vital, life saving training.
