Divine kingship was one of the fundamental tenets of ancient Egyptian religion. But how could the ancient Egyptian people really have believed their kings were living gods? Professor Lanny Bell will illuminate this issue by exploring the beliefs of the ancient Egyptians from within their own cultural perspective. A leader in the documentation of the monuments of ancient Egypt and the interpretation of ancient Egyptian culture, Professor Bell has conducted fieldwork in Luxor for the University Museum of the University of Pennsylvania and for the Oriental Institute of the University of Chicago, and has accompanied numerous tours to Egypt.
This program is a collaboration between the Archaeological Institute of America (AIA), the Center for Heritage and Archaeological Studies at Montclair State University, and the Montclair Art Museum.
