A group of local women who have or have had cancer have formed a new cancer support program, WINGS...Women…Inspiring...Nurturing…Giving…Strength & Support.
Monthly programs will include educational topics, guest speakers, as well as support to help regain physical, emotional and spiritual health. We hope to provide a positive environment for women affected by cancer- before, during and after treatment- to alleviate stress and anxiety through the healing arts.
Our next program is on Wednesday, May 18, 2011 at the Verona Community Center at 7:00PM.
An Interpretive Dance Workshop, designed by choreographer and breast cancer survivor, Maureen Glennon, will consist of a gentle warm-up and then develop into a class using gesture, words and movement. Exploring one's thoughts, feelings and emotions through movement is one way Maureen was able to cope with her battle with breast cancer last year. Inspired by the support around her, she is committed to helping others find strength through her love of dance and truly believes that through movement, healing happens. You will laugh, you might cry, but Maureen does promise you will have fun! The workshop will end with a performance by Maureen’s dance company, moe-tion dance theater. They will perform an excerpt from Maureen’s piece Cope and Maureen will also perform an excerpt from her solo, Just A Couple of Things, which premiered last October in support of breast cancer awareness month. No previous dance experience required. Wear comfortable clothing that you can move in.
