Governor Christie to Hold Town Hall at High School June 19

Cedar Grove Council reviews parking restrictions on township roads.

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie will visit Cedar Grove on June 19 for a town hall meeting, officials announced Monday night at the Cedar Grove Township Council meeting.

The event will be held in Cedar Grove High School's gymnasium to better accommodate the crowd, said Cedar Grove Mayor John Zunic.

Doors will open at 10:15 a.m. with seating on a first come, first serve basis. The event will start at 11 a.m. and is expected to last about 90 minutes.

“You always like to have the executive leader of the state visit your town,” said Zunic. “Residents will be able to directly ask their questions to the governor. It’s not very often people get that opportunity.”

The last governor to visit the township was Christie Todd Whitman, he said.

In other news, the council:
• Reviewed a report from the Cedar Grove Police Department regarding parking restrictions on various township roads, which are frequented by commuters and creating unsafe driving conditions. The council will draft an ordinance that could affect parking on Lakewood Avenue, Ridge Road, Union Street, Briarhill Road and Devonshire Road South. The proposed ordinance could be in effect as early as August.
• May consider merging the planning and zoning boards.
“If you look at the meeting schedule for the last 12 months, 50 percent of the meetings are cancelled because there is nothing on the agenda,” said Deputy Mayor Joseph Chiusolo. “The issue came up in 2002 and I think it may be time to resurface it and give it consideration.”
The council will review the item in more detail later this month.
