'Kaleidoscope' Brings Television Glory to Cedar Grove

CGHS Vocal wins big on TV Talent show.

Kaleidoscope, a group of five students from New Jersey’s Cedar Grove High School— Alea Caporrino, Caitlin Flynn, Darrah Maffettone, Carly O'Hagan and Gabrielle San Roman—on Sunday night were crowned the winners of Best Vocal Ensemble in “MSG Varsity’s Talent Show.”

This weekly television series showcased the tri-state area’s most talented high school performers in each of four categories—best vocal ensemble, best female vocalist, best male vocalist and best dance ensemble.

Winners in all four categories were announced yesterday evening during the show’s season finale on the MSG Varsity network, which airs on Cablevision’s iO TV, Channel 14.

Kaleidoscope outlasted hundreds of initial show applicants, eight weeks of competition and a nail-biting final round to emerge as the favorite ensemble in their category, as determined by audience voting earlier in the week at www.msgvarsitytalentshow.com

Kaleidoscope sang  The  Supremes’ “Baby Love” for their final round performance and beat out Holy Trinity Select Choir of New York.

As “MSG Varsity’s Talent Show” Best Vocal Ensemble winners, Kaleidoscope members will now get the chance to work with award-winning producers as part of a two-day professional studio session and record a professionally-produced demo CD.  They will also receive a professional photo shoot, hair and make-up styling and custom-designed CD cover art.

“We are overjoyed, because all our hard work has paid off!” said San Roman, speaking on behalf of the group. “We are so excited to record our demo CD.  Thank you so much to all of our supporters and fans who voted for us!”

“The ‘Talent Show’ is part of our ongoing commitment to showcase the wide array of talents and abilities of students in communities throughout our region,” said Theresa Chillianis, General Manager of MSG Varsity.
