Lightning Likely Caused Cedar Grove Garage Fire: Police
A lightning strike was the likely culprit of a fire in a Myrtle Avenue garage, police say.

CEDAR GROVE, NJ — A lightning strike was the likely culprit of a fire in a Myrtle Avenue garage on Friday, police say.
According to the Cedar Grove Police Department, police and fire personnel responded to a Myrtle Avenue home around 8:32 p.m. on Aug. 12 on a report of a smoke condition following a lightning strike. On arrival, emergency personnel located a fire in the detached garage of the residence.
Cedar Grove police were able to knock down the fire with a hand held extinguisher until arriving firefighters completely extinguished the fire and secured utilities, authorities said.

A subsequent investigation indicated that the fire was likely caused by a lightning strike, police said.
No injuries were reported during the incident, authorities added.
