Man In ‘Altered Mental State’ Crashes BMW Into Cedar Grove Business: Police

A 57-year-old Cedar Grove man crashed his BMW into a local business on Commerce Road earlier this month, police said.

Cedar Grove, NJ – A 57-year-old Cedar Grove man crashed his BMW into a local business on Commerce Road earlier this month, possibly while in an “altered mental state,” police said.

According to the Cedar Grove Police Department, officers received 9-1-1 reports around 3 p.m. on May 13 that a car crashed into a building at 89 Commerce Road.

On arrival at the scene, officers determined that the car – a 2002 BMW X5 – was traveling west on Commerce Road when it ran off the road to its left, drove over a curb, hit a tree and continued into the building.

The operator, a 57 year-old Cedar Grove man, appeared to be in an “altered mental state,” which was believed to be related to a medical incident that occurred just prior to the crash, police stated.

Emergency responders transported the driver and two of his juvenile passengers to St. Joseph’s Hospital in Paterson for treatment of non-life threatening injuries, police said.
