Mardi Gras Coming Early to First Presbyterian Church

Gathering at O'Neil's following service.

The First Presbyterian Church in Verona will kick off Mardi Gras a little early this year, and celebrate in conjunction with their Saturday Night Alive service at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 5.

Max Morden and a band will lead boisterous music and Pastor Erik Spencer will lead spirited conversation in celebration of the day. Pastor Spencer said of the occasion, “In the Christian calendar, Mardi Gras is a day of festivity on the last day before the disciplines and fasting of Lent. We intend to relax and rejoice in another day of living.”

Saturday Night Alive is a program of spirituality and worship which include lively music, thoughtful conversation, and warm fellowship.  The hope is to provide an informal opportunity to seek God in music, prayer, discussion, and self-giving for people who don't find traditional Sunday Protestant worship convenient, inviting or meaningful. Pastor Spencer encourages people to come dressed just as they are and to be accepted just as they are. And to wear their Mardi Gras beads, of course.
