Municipal Elections Running Smoothly in Verona-Cedar Grove

Things are running smoothly as voters in Verona and Cedar Grove take to the polls to cast ballots for municipal candidates.
“So far so good,” Verona Municipal Clerk Susan Neale reported Tuesday afternoon.
The voter turnout for the election remains to be seen, but poll workers in Verona are reporting that voting has been steady.
However, municipal elections tend to have a low turnout, said Cedar Grove Assistant Clerk Martina Meding.
According to the Essex County Clerk website, only 16.5 percent of registered voters in Essex County cast their ballot in the 209 municipal elections and only 14.5 percent of voters turned out for the municipal elections in 2011.
Polls close in each town at 8 p.m. and unofficial results are typically available on the Essex County Clerk website around 9 p.m.
