Seniors Get New County Services Office in Verona

At a ribbon cutting ceremony on Wednesday, Essex County Executive, Joseph N. DiVincenzo, with County Senior Services Director, Jaklyn DeVore and members of her staff officially opened the new Division of Senior Services offices. The office, offering a wide range of services to eligible Essex County senior citizens, will now be located at 900 Bloomfield Avenue in Verona.

“The office at 900 Bloomfield Avenue was a perfect fit for our Senior Services Division. It’s handicap accessible, public transportation stops right outside, there’s plenty of parking, and it’s easy to get to from one side of the county and the other," DiVincenzo explained.

The offices, at the newly renovated intersection of Bloomfield Avenue and White Rock Rd., became available after the Essex County Vocational Technical School District administrative office relocated to another building last year. The Division of Senior Services was previously located on the third floor of the One-Stop Center at 50 South Clinton Street in East Orange.

The One-Stop Center also housed the offices of the Division of Training and Employment, Workforce Investment Board (WIB), the Division of Welfare, community-based literacy providers and the New Jersey Department of Labor and Workforce Development. Devore added, “There were a lot of things going on in that building. This new location is more inviting for the seniors and the quality of life for our seniors will be better here.” DiVincenzo concluded, “ We want to be good neighbors for our neighbors and those in the towns we serve.”

The Essex County Division of Senior Services offers adult protective services, basic transportation services, and visiting nurse services. It also administers adult day care centers, provides counseling services for caregivers, and home delivered meals to seniors.
