Services Set for Woman Who Died Tragically
Funeral will be Thursday in Cedar Grove for Sally Simmons.

Services for Sally Simmons will be Thursday at 10 a.m. in Cedar Grove, the community where she lived for more than 40 years before moving to the Enclave at Livingston three years ago.
Simmons died Saturday evening after she was tragically run over by her own car in the parking lot of the Landmark on Mount Pleasant Avenue. She was 79.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday from Shook’s Cedar Grove Funeral Home, 486 Pompton Ave. (Rt. 23), Cedar Grove. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. at St. Catherine of Siena R.C. Church Cedar Grove. Visiting hours will be Wednesday 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the funeral home.

Simmons was born in Orange and was raised in Kearny. She lived in Cedar Grove for over 40 years and settled in Livingston three years ago.
“Sally was truly a ‘social butterfly.’ She enjoyed entertaining and cooking for friends and family," said her obituary posted by the funeral home. "In her spare time she enjoyed reading and her favorite activity, shopping. “

According to the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office, Simmons had arrived at the to find out availability for an event.
Simmons apparently failed to put the vehicle in park after she arrived around 6:15 p.m. Saturday. It then rolled over her as she walked behind it on her way to the restaurant, said Katherine Carter, spokeswoman for the Essex County Prosecutor's Office.
Simmons was married for 58 years to the late Thomas Joseph Simmons. She is survived by her children Nancy Simmons, Thomas Simmons and his wife Emiliya, and William Simmons and his wife Patricia; and three grandchildren.
