Snowstorm Hits Verona, Cedar Grove: Schools, Parking, Garbage
Here's how the winter weather impacted Verona and Cedar Grove.
VERONA, NJ — A day after Gov. Phil Murphy declared a snow-related state of emergency in New Jersey, the ugly weather continued to impact Verona and Cedar Grove.

Cedar Grove public schools were closed Monday, March 4 due to “weather conditions,” administrators said.
Monday’s solid waste, garbage and recycling collection was suspended. The next collection will be Thursday, March 7, officials said.

Cedar Grove town officials issued the following advisory on Sunday evening:
“Township ordinances prohibits throwing snow or ice onto roadways, and Requires sidewalks be cleared within 24 hours of the snow stopping. Fire hydrants should be cleared of snow. Finally there will be no on street overnight parking permission given Sunday night so that the township plows can clear the roadways properly. If you need assistance for any reason please call the Police Department at 973-239-4100.”
VERONA
A power outage in Verona on Sunday night was apparently due to an outage in West Orange near the Montclair Golf Club, authorities said.

Verona public schools were closed on Monday, March 4 due to “overnight snow accumulations and travel safety concerns,” administrators said.
Garbage collection was suspended on Monday due to the snow. Residents should hold their garbage until their next regular collection, officials said.
Verona municipal offices opened at 10 a.m. on Monday. The Essex County Outreach Program was canceled, officials said.
Verona town officials offered the following information on Sunday.
- “The Department of Public Works is equipped and staffed to clear roadways safely and efficiently. This will require multiple passes through neighborhoods to clear the snow. Local ordinance prohibits shoveling, blowing or plowing snow into the street and this will be strictly enforced. Your anticipated cooperation will allow Public Works Employees to expeditiously finish clearing snow at the conclusion of this event.”
- “Concerns and issues with power outages should be relayed directly to the service provider. The Office of Emergency Management will be communicating as a secondary notification to utility companies. Utility companies need to hear from their customers while outage maps and restoration times are available online.”
- “The Township Police, Fire and EMS team is communicating and prepared for any emergency response necessary within the Township. We will continue to respond to emergency calls for service throughout the weather event. Reports of a non-emergent nature (property damage, etc.) will be held until weather improves. Reminder to use 911 for police, fire and medical emergencies.”
- “As snowfall begins, the Police Department will enforce all on street parking regulations. Local Ordinance prohibits street parking during weather events requiring snow removal. Vehicles will be ticketed and towed and will not be released until the event has concluded.”
