
Verona High School Weekly Sports Wrap
The Hillbilly football team moved over .500 on Saturday, getting a 27-18 win over Newark Central High School. Billy Meade totaled more than 200 yards of offense and scored three touchdowns. The win moved Verona into 10th place in the power point rankings North II Group I , with a match up against Weequahic (No. 8 spot), where the winner will likely be in the postseason and the loser out.

Verona lost its first match of the season on Thursday, suffering a 1-0 setback against Livingston in the Essex County semis. They defeated Newark Academy in the quarter finals on Monday. Verona is 13-1.

A pair of wins for the Hillbilly girls have gotten Verona over .500, at 8-7. They scored wins on Mt. St. Dominic and Bloomfield. Olivia Marino led Verona with three goals scored this week.
Volleyball
Verona got over .500 this week with a pair of wins over Irvington and University. The Hillbillies are 11-10.
Cedar Grove High School Weekly Sports Wrap
The Panther football team was served its first loss this season, falling against Orange, 42-33. Despite gaining over 400 yards of offense, Cedar Grove's defense had problems with Jayquan Watson, who gained 141 yards on 15 carries, and scored three touchdowns. Cedar Grove is now 6-1.
Girls Soccer
Sabrina Palma and Courtney Taylor both scored a pair of goals this past week and helped the Panthers get back to .500, with wins over Irvington and Technology. Cedar Grove is 7-7-1.
Girls Tennis
The Panthers fell in the North I Group 1 state sectional finals, in a 3-2 loss to the Leonia Lions. Cedar Grove went 0-3 this past week and are now 8-11.
