Verona Promises Support for PSE&G Storm Prep

PSE&G official told council the 'Energy Strong' initiative will not mean a rate hike for customers.

In thanks for PSE&G's power-restoration efforts during last October's Superstorm Sandy, the Verona Township Council returned the favor at its Monday meeting by voting unanimously to support for the utility's "Energy Strong" initiative, according to a published report.

Under "Energy Strong," PSE&G would invest $3.9 billion into efforts to better protect the area from future weather events, said the Verona-Cedar Grove Times. Some components of the project include aising the height of switching stations, aggressive tree trimming and examining how light poles and wires are constructed.

PSE&G Essex and Passaic counties Regional Public Affairs Manager Everett Scott said the initiative would not mean a rate hike for customers.
