The Michelle Sullivan Fund was created in 1993 after the tragic death of , Michelle Sullivan. At the time of her death, Michelle was 12 years old eagerly awaiting the start of a new school year going into the 7th grade. Like most 12 year olds, Michelle enjoyed being involved in sports. Michelle was not blessed with natural athleticism, but understood that being part of a team required a lot more than that. She worked hard and supported her teammates constantly, which made her an important team member.
Michelle started playing softball in the third grade with her father as her coach. The summer before her death she had played on the traveling girls’ softball team and looked forward to playing when she entered high school. Since sports were a big part of her life, after her death, caring friends started a fund in her memory. The purpose of the fund is to help promote girls athletics.
For that past 16 years the Montville Baseball and Softball Association has hosted an annual tournament to benefit the Michelle Fund. Softball teams from all corners of the state descend on Montville for a weekend of comraderie and competition.
