Verona 1st Responders Rescue Resident, Cat From Blaze
Verona firefighters and police officers rescued a local resident - and their cat - after a fire at a Hillcrest Terrace home.

VERONA, NJ — Essex County firefighters and police officers rescued a local resident - and their cat - after a fire forced an evacuation of a home on Hillcrest Terrace in Verona earlier this month, authorities say.
According to the Verona Police Department, first responders arrived at the home around midnight on May 2 to find smoke and flames coming out of the southwest side of the structure.
First responders were able to help the resident get out of the burning house, and after extinguishing the flames, firefighters were able to locate the cat and return it to the resident, authorities said.

Crews from North Caldwell, Cedar Grove, and Montclair also responded to the scene to assist the VFD and the Verona Rescue Squad, authorities stated.
